About Dustin

Dustin Williams is one of the hosts, the producer, and the system admin for the Atheist Nomads. Here’s his bio:

dustin-2013I was born and raised in the Seventh-day Adventist church and attended Adventist schools from third grade on. After the events of September 11, 2001 which unfortunately took place during the middle of my school’s week long apocalyptic survival course I started feeling the call to the ministry. As high school graduation drew near “God” “told” me to go study theology at Walla Walla College (now Walla Walla University). So I turned down an Air Force ROTC scholarship and four years later graduated cum Laude with a BA in Theology and then spent a year in the Master of Divinity program at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University.

The doubts started towards the end of my freshman year of college, but after I’d resolve one it could come back bigger and deeper as my studies advanced. A summer on an archaeological dig provided some good prospective that helped solidify in my mind that the faith I had already lost long before wasn’t coming back. I then went to Mexico to preach an evangelistic series, but after four sermons my integrity made it so I couldn’t keep preaching a message I didn’t believe, so I quit.

I still preach the good news, of course now it’s sharing the good news of atheism. The old cliche, “once a preacher, always a preacher,” holds true for me.

I now live in Boise, ID, work in IT, and am the Coordinator of the Treasure Valley Coalition of Reason. I also blog at www.dwnomad.com and am an avid fan of open source software.
